Pyrography, is the process of using a heated metal tip to decorate wood and other materials like cork, leather, wicker, paper mache, gourd, fabric, horn, & bone, with your own patterns, designs or words. Wood (including MDF & Plywood) is the most common material used in pyrography. Popular items to make are wall name plaques, signs, decorate picture frames, used to decorate or write names on Children's wooden toy's, to decorative work items like bowls, platters and egg cups etc. Pyrography is often called woodburning, the term pyrography came from the Greek word meaning "fire and markings" or "writing with fire" but a pyrography is also used in many other crafts like: Textile Artists, use pyrography pens on materials, threads and fibres and often used in combination with natural dyes and paints. Gourd and Ceramic Crafters, use pyrography pens to burn designs onto dried hard-shell Gourd, Glass or Ceramic, often creating very dramatic striking effects. Candlemakers, use pyrography pens for sculpting and embossing patterns on candles. Leather workers also use pyrography pens on Leather items such as purses, wallet and belts etc using the same techniques as used on wood. Leather also lends itself well to bold designs and it also allows very subtle shading to be achieved.I have written below some tips on how to use a Pyrography tool To use: Place the tool on its stand before connecting to the power, wait a few moments for the tool to warm up. Then holding the Pyrography pen like a writing pen, simply follow your drawn pencil lines to create your design. When you are then ready: Start following some simple pencil lines, then as your skill improves, draw or trace a some simple designs and follow these pencil lines with your pyrography or just go with the flow all you need is a little imagination to create some stunning effects and with practice you will progress from making simple name plaques to producing fine pictorial works of art, as subtle in line, shade and tone as other forms of monochrome art. After your design is burned in: these designs are often coloured, sometimes boldly or delicately tinted. Light coloured hardwoods such as Sycamore, Beech and Birch are the most popular woods used as their fine grain and their natural light colouring is not obtrusive and they produce a pleasing contrast effect. However, other woods, such as Pine or Oak are also used, but use whatever wood you have available. Sometimes the grain of the wood will suggest various patterns to you, if you wish you can incorporate these unique natural features into your design with pleasing effectWe are a small family business based in the UK, providing a fast and friendly service at very competitive prices.
