All items shown are listed in our Ebay ShopLiberon Woodturner’s Lathe Polish 250ml
Liberon Woodworker's Lathe Polish is a high gloss, shellac based friction polish designed to use whilst the wood is turning on the Lathe, apply the polish with a Safety Cloth (not included) The polish seals and finishes the turned woodwork in one easy step.
Liberon Woodturner's lathe polish is a friction polish that gives a great high gloss finish, ideal for spindle and small diameter items. The final finish will only be as good as the prepared surface, so the wood needs to be sanded near perfect, because a high gloss finish will just magnify any marks and scratches. I would recommend sanding down to 600 grit or use Liberon 0000 wire wool. Friction polish requires heat to make a smooth finish, this heat is generated from pressure and friction, high speed is not necessary as long as there is enough pressure and the friction caused generates heat. To use; Apply some polish to a safety cloth, less polish on the cloth is better than more, apply the polish in a thin coat, then apply the next coat as the first coat dries, then repeat the process as required to build up a layer of coats. If excess polish has been applied, then ridges in the finish can occur and adding more polish is not the answer, remove the ridges by putting some methylated spirits on a safety cloth and apply this to the wood, the meth’s will soften the polish and allow the polish will flow smoothly over the wood. Liberon Woodturners Safety ClothLarge size cloths approx 12 ½" x 13 ½" Ideal for applying and buffing friction polishes and waxes on the lathe Highly absorbent Material tears when catches
Applying finishes, waxes or buffing on a lathe has always been a good way to get a great finish. However, with normal cloths, there is always the danger that some threads get caught in the chuck and trapping your fingers or hand, this could and does happen, this can mean the loss of a finger or even worse, as a woodturner myself I know from experence how easily it can happen.
These safety cloths have the characteristics of a fine buffing cloth, but are especially made to tear very easily should it get entangled in the chuck or other moving parts, therefore reducing the risk of entrapping fingers. Use the cloth to apply dyes, waxes and other finishes or to simply buff the wood while it's still turning on the lathe. It’s just not worth the risk to use normal cotton cloths, as you only need a accident to happen once.
Liberon Palette Wood Dye
A good choice of dye for all interior bare wood, this dye still shows the natural beauty of the grain through the dye. For use prior to oil, wax, varnish or french polish finishes. Also ideal for Carving & Woodturning projects. Suitable for Hard & Soft woodsSuitable for large and small surfaces areas such as furniture, floors, doors, cupboards & framesOdourlessAll the dye colours can be intermixed to create unique shadesEndorsed by the Guild of Master CraftsmenEN71 Part 3 Approved – Safe for Toys Good light resistanceTools can be cleaned in waterFree Postage to UK including the Highlands & islandsThis Liberon Palette dye is a water based Acrylic dye and a good choice for most projects. When applied to wood, all water based dyes will naturally raise the grain slightly, although you can minimise this raising effect by first wiping over the wood with a damp cloth and allowing the wood to dry, then rub the wood over with 0000 wire wool, then wipe with a tack cloth before applying the dye. These Palette dyes have similar properties to traditional water based dyes, but acrylic dyes are much better, the acrylic in the Palette dye helps to minimise the grain raising. These Palette dyes are excellent for staining large areas of wood because the dye is slower drying (than spirit dyes) and you can achieve a more even spread of dye without leaving overlapping marks. 13 colours are available from our Ebay Shop: Ebony, Georgian Mahogany, Victorian Mahogany, Light Oak, Medium Oak, Dark Oak, Tudor Oak, Antique Pine, Golden Pine, Teak, Walnut, Yew & White
Liberon Spirit Wood Dye
This Dye is a new formula which is Ethanol based and is ideal for colouring previously finished wood, making it ideal for antique repair work and for small woodturning pieces 14 colours available; Ebony, Georgian Mahogany, Victorian Mahogany, Light Oak, Medium Oak, Dark Oak, Tudor Oak, Antique Pine, Golden Pine, Teak, Walnut and Yew Spirit based Quick drying Penetrates deep into wood All colours can be mixed - useful for repairs and blending Can be thinned with methylated spirits (not cellulose thinners) for a delicate wash effect. Not suitable for use with Polyurethane varnish
Spirit dyes have the advantage of being drying quickly, which makes it excellent for repair and touch-up work on floors, wood trim, furniture and antique repairs etc. These spirit dyes do not raise the grain of the wood as a rule, or not to the same extent as a water based dye. For Woodturning, these spirit dyes are excellent, but their use should be limited to smaller pieces or for selected areas, because of the rapid evaporation of the alcohol spirit, the dye is quickly absorb into the wood and covering a large area can therefore be tricky as overlap marks can often result, in this case a Liberon Palette water based Acrylic dye would be a better choice Liberon Water Based Concentrate Dye Pack Pack of 8 dyes Colours One 15ml bottle of each colour dye is included in the pack: Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, Red, White, Yellow Dilute 10% dye to 90% water

I could say because the wax is easy to apply and it gives an excellent finish, or that the wax drys quicker than most, does not dry up hard in the tin like many, or even that it offers good value for money, it does all these things and more. ....but I also use it because I like the smell.
